We’re short of milk and bread, but how about some haggis?

- By Sara Spary and Katie Morley

SHOPPERS have been left scrambling for basics such as bread and milk after finding supermarket shelves empty.

Delivery drivers struggled to drop off their loads to stores as a result of icy roads, while shoppers panic bought remaining supplies for fear of being snowed in. And customers shared pictures of empty shelves online.

One shopper, Libby Brooks, tweeted a photograph of a section of a Sainsbury’s store in Glasgow, which looked almost bare save for two lemons, two kiwis and some tins of haggis.

“Empty shelves at my local supermarket in Glasgow this lunchtime, but at least there’s still tinned haggis left...” she wrote.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “Supply is good and essentials like bread and milk are still available.”
