Burma urging Rohingya to flee, says border official

A senior official in Bangladesh’s border agency accused Burma of deploying soldiers across its border near a no-man’s land where thousands of Rohingya Muslim refugees are living.

Brig Gen Mojibur Rahman said yesterday that his agency had also complained that Burmese officials had been using loudspeakers to urge about 6,000 Rohingya in the no-man’s land to enter Bangladesh.

Some 700,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Burma to Bangladesh since late August.
