Irish eyes aren’t smiling as Beast cuts power

After Guinness, the national drink of Ireland is probably a cup of tea. But blizzard conditions have taken an unimaginab­le toll on the Irish – as people have been unable to boil their kettle.

With electricit­y cut off, concerns continue to grow about the overall toll the “Beast from the East” will take on countries across Europe. The snow showed little sign of ending yesterday, as people awaited respite from a Siberian weather system which has claimed 60 lives across the continent.
