DC’S ‘Dutch courage’ drink results in ban

-

 A detective drank vodka to give himself “Dutch courage” before driving to a disciplinary meeting, a court heard.

Det Con Robert Hunt was arrested in his superior’s office while they were discussing misconduct proceedings against him.

Doncaster magistrates were told Hunt, 48, had driven to Rossington Police Station in Doncaster, South Yorks, and consumed alcohol in the police station car park to give him “Dutch courage”.

Hunt, from Doncaster, denied drink-driving on Oct 20 but was convicted. He was banned for 12 months, fined £738 and ordered to pay £620 costs. The ban was suspended pending an appeal.
