Robin Hood’s end under an industrial estate

-

SIR – You report (February 26) that Robin Hood’s reputed burial site could be lost in an industrial estate.

There are other reasons why the loss of this site would be a disaster. Apart from Kirklees Priory, which is Grade I listed, there are a number of Grade II listed buildings in the area.

Ironically, Kirklees Metropolitan Council took its name from Kirklees Priory. Sadly, planning laws currently allow councils to trample over local sensitivities and heritage. I represent a national group with 108 affiliated community groups. The Government needs to take time to speak to community representatives such as myself and allow us to make sensible, constructive suggestions on what could be done to reform the National Planning Policy Framework.
