Protests lead to diversity of statues
Historic England has claimed that “history wars” over memorials to controversial figures such as Cecil Rhodes, the colonialist, have led to Britain having a greater diversity of statues.
Celia Richardson of the heritage group said: “A wave of new memorials is upon us – some of which are consciously aimed at bringing greater diversity to statues and other forms of memorial.
“These include tributes to a number of women.”
