Dating app bans guns from users’ profile pictures
PROFILE pictures featuring guns have been banned from a dating app in the wake of the Florida school shooting.
Users of Bumble, which has 30 million members worldwide, will be banned if they show off a firearm in photographs, though members of the military, police and other uniformed professions will be exempt.
A spokesman said that Bumble was “founded with safety in mind” and aimed for “respect and kindness”.
Whitney Wolfe Herd, the app’s founder, admitted that it would affect hobbyists, as well as law-abiding gun owners and hunters.
“It’s a very tricky battle we’ve chosen to take on, but I’d rather pursue this than just ignore it,” she told The New York Times.
