WALLFLOWERS

-

Certain print motifs stick around in fashion for a reason – florals, because women adore beauty and they have a way of softening looks; stripes, because they can slim; polka dots, for fun. This season, designers looked to grand homes and kitsch interiors for print-spiration. Dries van Noten took standard botanicals and made them intriguing in hand-drawn biro, while Chloé’s and Hermès took geometric approaches. Mulberry’s Johnny Coca, an avowed fan of English stately homes, looked to retro wallpapers for his AW18 prints – op-art dots in white, brown and blue could have come straight out of a swingy Sixties lounge. “The twist on the look always comes from the strength of these colour combinations,” he told the Telegraph.

“You can take something very classic and make it look eccentric and unusual if you just play with the right colour.”
