Aspiring doctor killed himself after sex boasts shared online

- By Francesca Marshall

A MEDICAL student said to have boasted online about a fling with a girl killed himself after colleagues from his rugby team shared his comments on social media.

Edward Senior told his team-mates about the fling on a private messaging board. But the comments were shared on social media and were seen by the girl along with other students at Swansea University.

Mr Senior, 22, was studying at Swansea Medical School, part of the university, when he posted the comment. After it was shared, he reportedly feared being expelled from his course, which could have ended his ambition to become a doctor. He returned to his family home following the broadcasting of the comment and was later found hanged in woodland.

Max Senior, his brother, said: “Ted tragically took his own life. In the 22 years he lived, he had an unbelievable impact on so many people’s lives. He had a rare ability to light up any room with his wide smile, mop of blond hair and special charm.

“Ted was a friend to everyone and always did his utmost to help people in need. The life and soul of every situation, Ted was someone who embodied all the right values on how to live, and will undoubtedly leave a lifelong legacy in everyone’s hearts.” He has since set up a foundation in his brother’s name. He said: “In honour of Ted, it is the family’s wish to set up a foundation. This will be an organic process with funds being invested in projects and forums aimed at preventing a similar tragedy.”

A crowdfunding page for the foundation had yesterday raised more than £13,500.

Swansea University refused to say if he had been suspended in the days leading up to his death. A spokesman said: “We were very saddened to hear of the death of Edward Senior, a student at our medical school. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends at this time.”

On the crowdfunding page, Harriet Miller wrote: “I didn’t know Ted very well but I interviewed him for medicine at Swansea and thought he was brilliant and lovely. He was so bubbly and smiley and would have made a wonderful doctor. My thoughts are with all of his family and friends.”

Mr Senior, of Raglan, Monmouthshire, was head boy at Monmouth comprehensive school before pursuing a career in medicine.

His parents, Paul and Diana Senior, who run a farmhouse B&B in Raglan, were too upset to talk about the tragedy.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned by the acting Gwent coroner while police inquiries continue.
