Sixties reformer Pope Paul VI to be canonised
Pope Paul VI, who oversaw sweeping “Vatican II” reforms of the Catholic Church in the Sixties, will soon be made a saint, the Vatican announced yesterday.
The Second Vatican Council brought wide reforms, revolutionising the relationship between Catholic believers and priests.
Oscar Romero, the archbishop of San Salvador who was assassinated in 1980 after speaking out against repression and social injustice in his country, will also be canonised, the Holy See said in a statement.
