BBC stuck on repeat

-

SIR – There is no need for the BBC to axe a single programme to allow room for new ideas (report, March 7).

Yesterday there were 20 repeat shows on BBC One and Two. There is no call to repeat any programmes in the days of iplayer, catch-up TV and the instant record button.

The BBC seems to forget that it is supposed to be catering for the whole country, not just metropolitan London residents and lovers of male sports such as darts, football and snooker. Elizabeth Spooner

SIR – It has long been hoped that the BBC could stand as the remaining bastion of quality.

However, already too many allegedly cultural programmes are 10-minute stories crammed into an hour of scheduling. There is a lot of mindless repetition, and sports coverage is more about celebrity “talking heads” than the sport itself. Charles Holden
