The unwelcome invasion of the Canada goose
sir – I am in complete support of the Royal Parks’s decision to deter Canada geese from Regent’s Park (report, March 6).
These birds are pests and certainly not an endangered species. When I was growing up on the Thames in the Fifties there were no Canada geese. Now they have more or less taken over the river banks, ousting native swans and ducks.
They strip the banks of grass and foul on the footpaths. Their mess is a danger to walkers and unsavoury underfoot, particularly for children.
I encourage other authorities to follow the Royal Parks’s example. Tony Lloyd
