We must respond to any Russian aggression
SIR – Amber Rudd, the Home Secretary, is absolutely right to describe the attempted murder of a former Russian spy as a “brazen and reckless attack” (report, March 8, telegraph.co.uk).
Our response should be to immediately expel all Russian diplomats in Britain, shut down their embassy in London, and – for good measure – withdraw the England football team from this year’s World Cup in Russia. Anthony Fernau

SIR – It is all very well saying that we must “stand up” to Russia – but how?
We are dependent on it for much of our gas supply and successive governments have cut our armed forces so that they are now no more than a token force. Malcolm Allen

SIR – We should allow Russia to host the World Cup, for the same reason that we will continue to visit the Russian ballet, opera and musical events. This summer, many thousands of us will board cruise ships to St Petersburg from Britain.
The Government will also continue negotiating tirelessly for peaceful settlements in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Relating to others should always be paramount, however difficult the terrain. Barry Bond
