Safe driving in a storm

-

SIR – I was sad to read of the death of a seven-year-old child, who was fatally injured after a car collided with a house during the recent snow storms in Cornwall (report, March 7).

We don’t get a lot of practice in this country when it comes driving on ice and snow. Perhaps it would be a good idea if new drivers were obliged to take a course on a skid pan to give them some confidence to cope with adverse conditions.

My own two sons, having passed their driving tests, took themselves on a one-day skid pan course. Both have since experienced situations where they were extremely grateful for the advice they received that day. Janice Dorn
