Mind the Gender Pay Gap
RADIO 4, 8.00PM
Given what we know of the BBC’S ugly record on gender-related pay discrepancies in its own organisation, this programme is a brave piece of commissioning: historian Professor Emma Griffin charts the history of the gender pay gap in British employment, from work differences between the sexes in the 16th century through to today. She also takes a look at how the pay gap was entrenched in the Industrial Revolution, but how female mill employees in Lancashire were among the women who fought against unfairness.
