-

A motorist was seriously injured in a car crash with a deer when the decapitated head of the animal struck her in the face.

The woman, 73, was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital major trauma centre after the deer’s head crashed through the windscreen of her car.

The crash happened in Ashdown Forest, West Sussex, on Sunday.

It is believed the fully grown deer may have been running across the road in front of the pensioner’s Honda Jazz. The rest of the animal’s body landed on the roof of the car.

The woman suffered head and neck injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
