SIR – What on earth is happening to the banks ? My wife phoned Natwest on Thursday and waited for 18 minutes before speaking to anyone.

When she complained, she was told that 472 other customers were then in the queue.

If banks want to close their branches, then they must offer decent service on the telephone.
