Boys Will Be Boys (1935, b/w)
LONDON LIVE, 2.50PM ★★★
This fun, if rather silly, comedy from Gainsborough Pictures pokes gentle fun at British public schools. It was Will Hay’s fourth film and one of many in which he played an incompetent but conniving man attempting to scrounge his way to a position of authority. In this case, he’s a teacher who fakes a recommendation letter to become the headmaster of a large school then ends up solving the case of a stolen necklace.
