A War (2015)
BBC FOUR, 11.00PM ★★★★
Denmark’s Oscar entry from writer-director Tobias Lindholm
(A Hijacking), about the high cost of conflict, puts both its actors and audience through the wringer. It’s a film of two halves – one a frazzling visit to Afghanistan’s Helmand crossfire in 2003, the second a kind of Hutton Inquiry into the first as it tells the story of a Danish military company whose commander is accused of having committed a war crime.
