Murray: help fathers find part-time jobs
Men should be encouraged to work part-time rather than “coming home at 7pm and kissing their sleeping children in bed”, Dame Jenni Murray has said.
The Radio 4 Woman’s Hour presenter said shared parental responsibility for childcare was the most pressing issue for feminism today. Past generations of fathers missed out on time with their young children during the working week, but things should change, Dame Jenni argued.
At a literary festival in Dubai, she said: “What we really need to do is take part-time work seriously and make it available to young men. They… should know their kids, be with them and raise them. Because childcare is not a woman’s work, it’s a parent’s work.”
