 Rather like Britcom Scrotal Recall (since retitled as Lovesick by Netflix), SMILF’S dreadful title disguises something much smarter, funnier and more melancholy. Frankie Shaw writes and plays the titular nanny and single mother Bridgette, trying to raise her son, hold down a job and live a life. Shaw occasionally resorts to cheap gags, but more often offers a layered and intelligent exploration of modern American workingclass motherhood. GT
