-

 Three students planned to smuggle guns into the UK because they thought it was “cool”, a court has heard.

The Coventry University students contacted an arms dealer in the US via Whatsapp. The dealer sent two packages containing 50 bullets, which were intercepted in the UK ,while another two containing parts of a handgun came apart at a post office in Arizona, and police were called.

At Warwick Crown Court, Shajee Buhary pleaded guilty to the importation of prohibited weapons, and ammunition, and conspiring to sell prohibited weapons. Gabriel Addai-brmpah was found guilty of those charges and Matthew Sidhu was found guilty of conspiring to import ammunition and sell prohibited firearms. The men, all aged 23, were remanded in custody for sentencing.

Charles Crinion, the prosecutor, said the students tried to import guns because “they thought it was cool”.
