UN: ‘Mexican authorities covered up torture’
The United Nations human rights office said yesterday that Mexican authorities tortured dozens of people in connection with an investigation into the disappearance of 43 students.
Mexico said on Monday it had arrested a suspected drug gang member regarded as a key figure in the 2014 kidnapping and massacre of 43 student teachers.
“The findings of the report point to a pattern of ... covering up torture in the investigation,” said Zeid Ra’ad al-hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
