Memorials that don’t spoil the scenery

-

sir – I agree with Charles Alluto, the chief executive of the National Trust for Jersey, that memorial seats are a “blight” on beauty spots (report, March 14).

This trend is beginning to permeate certain beautiful parts of Dorset. However, the Swanage Pier Trust provides a cheaper and less obtrusive alternative by selling small brass plaques, engraved with messages, which are attached to the boardwalks.

A variation of this idea could be used in other beautiful parts of the country, with centrepiece memorials placed in unobtrusive locations nearby.
