Man arrested after women shot at house

- By Victoria Ward

ARMED police last night arrested a man suspected of shooting two people, including a heavily pregnant woman.

Officers were sent to St Leonards, East Sussex, after reports of shots being fired through the window of a house at around 8pm.

An air ambulance and up to 15 emergency vehicles were called, but reports last night suggested that both the pregnant woman and a woman in her 80s had died.

A manhunt was launched, with residents reporting on social media that they had been told to stay at home and lock their doors.

One motorist who had ventured too close to the cordon was told to “turn around” as their “life was at risk,” according to the Hastings Observer.

Another resident said a black 4x4 packed with armed police swerved and stopped in front of them. She said they were shouting: “Eyes on, eyes on... Have we got eyes on?” and yelled at residents to move.

Police said later that a weapon had been recovered and that a man was in custody in relation to the shooting.

A spokesman added: “We are asking people to stay away from the area as this is an active crime scene.”
