Karma ‘96’ T-shirt angers Liverpool fans

-

The Topman chain of high street fashion stores has withdrawn a T-shirt that appeared to make references to the Hillsborough disaster.

The £20 red shirt had the word Karma on one sleeve, a large 96 on the back, along with a rose and the phrase “what goes around comes back around”. A number of Liverpool fans felt the item alluded to the 96 fans killed in the 1989 tragedy and the 1985 Heysel disaster. One fan wrote on Twitter: “Please Topman – take this off the shelf. A genuine mistake I’m sure but this is insulting and upsetting.”

A spokesman said: “Topman apologises unreservedly for any offence caused by this T-shirt. The garment has been removed from sale online and in stores.”
