Grand ambitions Ireland’s other Slams
1948 Ireland averaged just nine points a game in recording a clean sweep in the Five Nations, with the Slam sealed by a 6-3 win over Scotland in Belfast.

Ireland’s only other Slam was secured in the dying seconds of the final match against Wales. Having taken a 17-15 lead with Ronan O’gara’s drop goal in the 77th minute (below), Stephen Jones then missed a 50-yard penalty with the last kick.
