Permutations How hosts can finish anywhere but top

-

England finish second...

If they beat Ireland with a bonus point and Wales either fail to beat France or they both win but there is a big points swing in England’s favour. If England win with a bonus point, France can only finish above them if they win with a bonus point and by at least four more points than England beat Ireland.

England finish third...

If Wales win with a bonus point and England also win, or England win without a bonus point and France win with a bonus point. If England fail to win, they must rely on France and Scotland not bettering their result in order to finish third. They cannot finish lower than third if they win.

England finish fourth...

If they lose to Ireland, and France win, draw or lose by five fewer points to Wales; or if Scotland win.

England finish fifth...

If they lose to Ireland, and France win, draw or lose by five fewer points to Wales; and Scotland win.
