Superhero film tops box office for five weeks

Black Panther has become the first film since 2000’s Avatar to top the list for box-office takings for five straight weekends.

According to studio estimates, Black Panther, a superhero movie set in Africa, grossed $27million (£19.3million) in ticket sales over the weekend, pushing its domestic haul in the US to $605million. Worldwide, the film has grossed more than $1.1billion.

The rebooted Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander, opened with a $23.5million weekend take. Drama I Can Only Imagine took $17.1million.
