Foster mother ‘feels betrayed’ by the Parsons Green bomber

-

 The foster mother of the Parsons Green bomber said she still cares for Ahmed Hassan, despite his crimes.

Penny and Ron Jones knew Hassan, an Iraqi asylum seeker, as a “lovely lad” who was helpful around the house. The couple gave him a home in Sunbury-onthames, Surrey.

Hassan, 18, faces years in jail for trying to blow up a Tube train at Parsons Green, west London, injuring 51 people. Mrs Jones said: “There is a small part of me that cares about him because I know he has mental health issues. I am cross with him for what he’s done, and that he’s done this in my house makes me feel very, very betrayed.”

Hassan made the bomb while his foster parents were away and packed the device with screwdrivers, knives, nuts and bolts.

The Old Bailey heard he wanted to avenge the death of his father in Iraq and was “disappointed” the bomb only partly detonated.

He will be sentenced this week.
