Older workers should pay more for the NHS
SIR – In looking to increase National Insurance contributions by over-65s still in work (Letters, March 19), the Government is acknowledging that pensioners use the NHS more than other age groups.
The fact that this group is more likely to contain Conservative voters is why the inequities of the universal winter heating allowance, free TV licences and free prescriptions have not been tackled already.
However, the Conservatives have realised that their core voters will not risk letting in a hard-left government. What the current Government has to do is attract younger voters; let’s hope, for all our sakes, that it does. Marion Hudson
