Breakfast eggs becoming a cereal killer

-

♦ Eggs are back on the breakfast table, figures show, as health fears over excess sugar consumption are turning people off breakfast cereal.

The average Briton is now eating an egg every other day. The British Egg Industry Council, which supplied the data, said people were once again making time for a “proper” breakfast. Consumption peaked in 1977 with the average person eating an egg two days out of three, before falling steadily as people switched from cooked breakfasts to eating a quick bowl of cereal or toast.

Sales of cereal are falling, with national spending dropping from £1.15billion in the year to April 2015 to £1.09billion in the year ending April 2016.
