Social media meddling
sir – Juliet Samuel (Comment, March 19) suggests that targeted data messages in social media had an “extraordinarily powerful effect” in the Brexit referendum campaign.
Where is the evidence for this? Usually Brexit voters are characterised as old, stupid and racist (most recently by Sir Vince Cable). Surely they would not know how to use a computer, far less be in any need of indoctrination?
It is becoming a trope of Liberal Democrats and other recidivist Remainers that those Brexit voters able to use computers were manipulated by Russia, implying that the referendum was won by foreign interference. Yet the most blatant foreign interference came from the American president, Barack Obama, not to mention the campaign that the Irish government admits to running to turn Irish voters against Brexit.
Remainers have never apologised for the foreign interference that they themselves organised and encouraged. Professor Alan Sked
