Fair weather
sir – Broadcaster Bill Giles dislikes the layout of the BBC’S new weather maps (report, March 20).
As an Englishman, however, I am pleased to see that Scotland is now shown at its correct size, rather than as an insignificant promontory to the north of Hadrian’s Wall. Alan Blears

sir – One can save a lot of time by using the Met Office app, which provides accurate local forecasts and – if you are travelling – an equally good forecast for your destination.
There are no flapping arms, either. Peter Burroughs

sir – When we lived in Prague in the Nineties, the main weather forecast featured a completely naked woman standing next to a clothes rack with the following day’s weather symbols at the side of the screen.
The woman would do a sort of reverse strip and, using the clothes on the rack, would dress appropriately for the following day’s weather, putting on a bikini or shorts and T-shirts for hot sunny weather and coats, hats and scarves for colder winter days.
There were complaints about the naked woman but, rather than take her off air, broadcasters introduced a naked man on alternate days. Maybe the BBC missed an opportunity. Ken Bates
