SIR – In the Sixties a friend of mine enrolled in the Mountain Leaders Course at Plas y Brenin in Snowdonia. Part of the course was an overnight bivouac in a remote cwm by Llyn Glas.
My friend realised that an evening hike in search of a refreshing beer after a hard day on the mountains would not be appealing, so enlisted my help in advance.
The weekend before the course, we drove to Snowdonia in his Fiat 500, each carrying a Party Seven (Letters, March 23). We got to Llyn Glas and submerged the beer in its cool water.
Imagine the scene days later when he triumphantly retrieved the precious liquid.
