Policeman slashed with sword during arrest
A police officer was seriously injured yesterday when he tried to tackle a man wielding a 3ft sword.
Greater Manchester Police said the officer suffered non-life threatening facial and back injuries when he was slashed with the weapon. He was discharged from hospital last night.
Officers arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the incident.
The incident in Whalley Range, south-west Manchester, happened at 1.50pm and was captured on video by passers-by. One witness said he saw a man “out looking for trouble” being arrested by officers and claimed he had been “attacking the police”.
