Light in the dark
The Palace of Westminster and Buckingham Palace were among the buildings that switched off their lights for Earth Hour, a worldwide event to highlight the dangers of pollution. Earth Hour took place at 8.30pm on Saturday, with landmarks such as Tower Bridge, Brighton Pier and Cardiff Castle, along with millions of people, turning off lights to mark the moment. Across the world, Sydney Opera House and the Eiffel Tower in Paris were among the sites that joined the switch-off.
