Fighting for life eight days after giving birth

Eight days after giving birth, dentist Nina Khaira, 38, was back in hospital fighting for her life. A urinary tract infection had spread to her bloodstream and she became septic. The bacteria responsible, ESBL E.coli, was resistant to all but two antibiotics.

She was discharged from hospital after 10 days of intravenous antibiotics and it took her nine months to fully recover.
