Police stand down inquiry into RAF man missing since 2016

-

♦ The inquiry into the disappearance of RAF gunner Corrie Mckeague will be stood down and passed to a cold case team, as his father said he feared the airman might have killed himself.

Mr Mckeague was 23 when he was last seen in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, in September 2016 after a night out with friends.

It is thought he might have climbed into a waste bin which was emptied into a bin lorry, prompting two searches of a landfill site at Milton, Cambridge. No trace of Mr Mckeague was found.

Yesterday, Suffolk Constabulary said that its investigators had found no evidence of foul play.

Mr Mckeague’s father, Martin, told the Daily Mirror he feared he might have killed himself after learning that he was going to become a father. He said: “I just can’t help thinking this would have weighed on him heavily and he may have actually chosen to get in that bin that night knowing what would happen.”
