Boy killed by ‘show-off ’ Ferrari driver
♦ A judge accused a Ferrari driver of wanting to “show off ” as he sentenced him for the death of a boy killed while he was demonstrating the power of his supercar.
Matthew Cobden killed Alexander Worth, 13, when he crashed his £1.2million Ferrari at 50mph. He was jailed for 18 months after he was found guilty of causing death by careless driving.
Winchester crown court heard that Cobden, 39, of Walton-on-thames, Surrey, gave Alexander a ride in the Ferrari F50 at his business premises in North Warnborough, Hants, but the car “accelerated uncontrollably”, hitting a fence post and throwing the pair from the vehicle.
Judge Keith Cutler criticised Cobden for not making the boy wear a seat belt, and added: “You were showing off, that is the explanation for the accident.”
