Not cricket
SIR – Michael Henderson (Comment, March 26) implies that the main problem in the Australian balltampering scandal was the brazenness of the act, rather than the act itself.
He asks, “What is cheating?” and states that “only golf is absolutely clean”. In truth, we all know what cheating is, and it includes scuffing a cricket ball. The fact that it is so widespread and accepted (as long as the umpire and the cameras don’t pick it up), along with the outrageously aggressive sledging that sets a bad example to young players, suggests that cricket has lost its moral compass.
