Disbelief as Australia coach clings to his job

Darren Lehmann, the Australian cricket coach, has escaped the sack as three of his players were sent home for their part in the ball-tampering scandal. Sources close to Lehmann had indicated he was ready to resign, but James Sutherland, the head of Cricket Australia, cleared the coach of any prior knowledge of the plot. Steve Smith looks likely to be stripped of the captaincy. Bob Willis, the ex-england fast bowler, said it was “remarkable” that Lehmann had been exonerated.
