Inspector jailed for 19 years for wife’s murder

A police inspector who murdered his wife “abused his knowledge of criminal investigations” to dispose of her body in a lake, a judge said yesterday as he jailed him for 19 years.

Darren Mckie, 43, of Greater Manchester Police, was sentenced at Chester Crown Court for the murder of Leanne, 39, his wife who was also a detective constable. He strangled her to death at their Wilmslow home after she discovered his £100,000 debts.

Her body was found in Poynton Lake, Cheshire, on Sept 29.

Mr Justice Spencer told Mckie: “You have robbed your children of their mother and have robbed Leanne’s parents of their beloved only child.”
