Jailed extremist teacher left boys suffering nightmares
CHILDREN are so traumatised by an Isil-inspired terrorist teacher that they still believe in his “East versus West” ideology, a court heard yesterday as a judge jailed him for life.
Umar Haque, 25, was told he must spend a minimum of 25 years in jail for trying to prepare a large-scale terror attack across London by trying to raise a “mini militia” of teenage boys to carry out the atrocities, using cars, guns, bombs and knives in street battles.
The trial revealed he tried to brainwash youngsters he taught at an East London mosque and schools by showing them extreme videos and making them re-enact knife attacks on police during role-play exercises.
Mr Justice Haddon-cave heard evidence from an NHS psychotherapist who engaged with nine ex-pupils aged nine to 13. Mark Heywood QC, prosecuting, said “the children had spoken of their confusion and frustration surrounding Islamic State, their religion and non-muslims”.
“Some speak of having flashbacks of the videos and nightmares centred around fear of death and punishment in the afterlife,” he said.
Fellow mosque teacher Abuthaher Mamun, 19, who traded in financial options to raise funds for the attacks, was jailed for 13 years. Muhammad Abid, 27, who failed to disclose information about Haque’s terror planning, was jailed for four years and three months.
Nadeem Ilyas Patel, 26, was cleared of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
