US sees rise in ‘lethal’ fentanyl

Suspected Mexican drug lord Francisco Quirozzamora, 41, was due in court in New York on yesterday, accused of trafficking enough fentanyl to kill 10 million people, US prosecutors said.

The synthetic opioid, 50 times stronger than heroin, is driving an alarming spike in fatal overdoses, which reached a record high of more than 1,400 deaths in New York last year.
