May faces Cabinet splits over £4bn NHS tax plan
Theresa May is facing Cabinet splits over calls for a tax to fund £4billion a year of extra investment in the NHS.
The Prime Minister has suggested that she backs a 10-year plan for the NHS, with Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, supporting a ring-fenced tax. Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary, suggested yesterday that funds could come from the “Brexit dividend”.
The Daily Telegraph understands ministers have concerns that an NHS tax may not be “sustainable”.
