Child killed in collision with delivery lorry

A three-year-old boy has died after being hit by a lorry in a Dorset village.

The boy was riding a red and blue balance bike with his family when he was struck at a pedestrian crossing on North Street in Wareham yesterday.

The toddler, who has not been named, sustained very serious injuries and was taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later. His bike remained crushed by the roadside.

Dorset Police said a 43-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and is assisting officers with their inquiries.
