Pc ‘pressured colleagues to drop daughter’s driving case’

- By Helena Horton

A POLICE officer has been accused of pressuring colleagues to drop a case against his daughter after she was caught using a mobile phone while driving.

The Avon and Somerset Police officer – known as “Pc B” – is accused of speaking to officers on the phone after they stopped his daughter and asking them not to prosecute.

Pc B, who faces a misconduct hearing, allegedly told one officer to leave the matter to him after his daughter was pulled over at 1am on Oct 28 last year. She reportedly handed her mobile phone to the officers who found her father was on the line.

He allegedly told them she had only been driving for a couple of months and could lose her licence.

Documents released ahead of the hearing, to be held on April 4, accuse Pc B of pressuring the special constables, telling them it was “just a silly mistake”, and questioning the account of one of the officers.

They claim that Pc B “deliberately sought to place pressure on the special constables to take no action against his daughter”.

“In the alternative, it is alleged that regardless of Pc B’s intentions, he caused or permitted the special constables to feel pressured,” the papers add.

It is alleged he breached police “standards of behaviour” including honesty and integrity, authority, respect and courtesy and discreditable conduct.

If any of the charges are proven, it will amount to gross misconduct.
