PETER KAY has delighted fans by reemerging in public, four months after cancelling his stand-up tour and disappearing from view.

The comedian posted a message on social media advertising tickets for a charity screening of his hit BBC comedy Car Share at Blackpool Opera House ahead of its broadcast.

Kay did not indicate if he would attend the event, but the tweet – his first since November – was a heartening sign for fans. In December, he cancelled a 100-date tour and all work commitments, citing “unforeseen family circumstances”.

He stated at the time: “I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.” He asked for privacy and did not disclose further details. Kay recorded two special episodes of Car Share last summer. They will be screened at the charity event on April 7, and broadcast on BBC One in May.

The show began in 2015 and Kay said the second series, which aired last April, was the last. The first series contained six episodes but the second had only four and followed the daily commute of John, a supermarket manager, and Kayleigh, a promotions rep played by Sian Gibson.

The role earned Kay two Baftas in 2016, for best male performance and best scripted comedy. The first of the new episodes is a “finale”, while the other is improvised.
