Amal Clooney to act for Burmese journalists

Amal Clooney, the British-lebanese human rights lawyer and wife of George Clooney, the actor, announced yesterday that she would represent two Reuters journalists detained in Burma in a case that attracted criticism from across the world.

Wa Lone, 31, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 27, were arrested last December and could face 14 years in jail.

They had previously been investigating the killing by security forces and Rakhine locals of 10 unarmed Rohingya Muslim men in the country’s northern Rakhine State.
